Why did Geordi LaForge stop wearing his trademark visor?
I am becoming more of a Star Trek fan everyday. I am most fond of Star Trek: The Next Generation. I have not become a full-blown Trekkie, yet. Data is my favorite character. My second preferred depiction is none other than Geordi LaForge. I like him because of his close bond with Data. I am most fascinated by his outlandish visor that he dons. I find it quite mesmerizing how they have the technology that enables a blind man to see in the distant future. As I watched other movies of the later genre, I noticed that LaForge is no longer wearing the visor. Instead, he has bright blue crystalline eyes. Why is that? Is it because LeVar Burton became disoriented because that visor distorted his view? Did he request to wear blue contact lenses thus prompting the producers to work that into the script? Why did they not give LeVar Burton a new visor or a pair of futuristic sunglasses instead of giving him custom made contacts?

I have no idea if it was disorientating but he wore it for a very long time so I would tend to say it wasn’t. I remember from watching that the new eyes gave him slightly better vision than his visor because he said he can see more clearly without the visor. I’m not sure why they gave him the blue eyes exactly but I would suppose the director’s/actor/costume people would have discussed what could be done before the films started and I would suppose that they changed it because it was further in to the "star trek future".

Data’s always been my favourite.
