To Canadians: I'm looking for your opinion?
I’m an natural born American but I’m tired of the USA. The US is all about profit and around 60% of all candidates are nothing but warmongers, racists, and congress never lets the good presidents create reform. Corporations in the US have around 70% of the people in US Congress (especially Republicans) as their puppets. The US wages wars every decade and usually its just foolish and mundane wars resulting in failures. The US is a country destined for collapse and it is sowing the seeds for its own destruction. The US cares more about big business rather than the welfare of their citizens. People in this country work hard, pay taxes, and many get nowhere and have to pay for everything.
I really want to leave the USA sometime in the next 10 years and I’ve always admired Canada because they help their people, they don’t go around waging wars, and its a relatively stable and peaceful country. When I’ve been there on vacations it seems a lot nicer and more happy and friendly than the USA. People can feel safe walking in the streets and it has nice subways unlike much of the US. Canada is like a Europe of North America and cares for their people a lot more. I’d be proud to be a citizen of Canada and admire Canada for how they treat their people. In the US I dislike what the Government of this Country stands for and how the US exploits their people by leaving them to be exploited by insurance companies, misrepresentation, and how US taxes go to nothing but wars, corporate tax cuts for big business, corporate bailouts, but when it comes down to helping their common people and middle class, the US leaves them in the dust. The US seems like a Capitalist Extremist Tyranny of the West in my own personal opinion. Canada, and most of Europe are usually more peaceful, care more about their people, and are for their people rather than business. I like some qualities of the US but my dislikes of the US outweigh my likes.
I’ve had some Canadian teachers in the past and they’re were very friendly. I’m currently in my early twenties and once I get my degree from my college, I really want to relocate from the USA and Canada is my top choice. Canadians are great people and they seem to be a lot more mature and knowledgeable than many Americans.
Can you Canadians tell me how much you love being Canadian? What you think of the US and how the US treats their people? Do you think my perceptions on Canada are accurate and that Canada is better than the US? Do you think I’m being too hard on the USA or do you think I’m accurate in my claims about my current homeland? Do you think I’d make a good Canadian resident/citizen? What are the best provinces for someone moving to Canada to settle?
I’m from the Northeast region of the US.
I’m an American planning to leave for Canada. Canada is nicer and more caring then America. Canada is the best country in North America.
America is full of capitalist-extremists and Mexico is the most-corrupt country in North America.
Canada is a more caring place, has less corruption, more stability, and treats their people with respect.
I once went to the U.S and like you said above, I felt a little creeped out walking around. Canada is, in my opinion, one of the best countries in the world, in the "caring about their people" part. You’d have to get used to the cold though =)

No, I don’t think you are being too harsh on your country. Plutocrats have set up every policy for their own benefits. I agree with you. It’s common nowadays we hear about relocation of jobs to overseas, spiking health cost, termination of pension, reduction of full-time job to contract… U.S is all about profits. Corporation bailed out so they can prepare bonuses to employees… What a fail.
Many Americans are out-raged at Obama saying that health care is a service… It is a service but there is another perspective that ‘everyone should have right to live’. I think it was great at first when he proposed government’s health insurance plan for the low income- earners. Majority of people went so mad to hear about it saying "We don’t want our country to become another Russia. A socialist country". America is like the only country with health insurance confined to private options. If universal-health plan was inefficient and deficit hiker then the europe along with Canada, and Australia would have aborted the plan long ago.
I like Canada, almost everything about it. It’s not a heaven on earth because it’s not completely corrupt free nation but it’s not as bad as U.S. Actually nowhere as near.
We have lower poverty rate than U.S
We pay lower tuition to universities overall than U.S
We have stronger banking system that is not as brittle as American one.
We have universal health care, are we the one with seven trillion dollar debt?
I have met some people who naturalized from U.S because of same reason as you. I think you would make great citizen. I am not natural born citizen either. I was once a immigrant.
I’d recommen B.C or Alberta for you. Economy in the east isn’t doing too well.
I disliked my old country (not U.S) so I naturalized. If you don’t like your country, you simply move.
It’s your freedom.

Hey!
I’m a born and raised Canadian and I couldn’t be prouder of my country!
I think the US is a valuable ally and I’m glad that we share the world’s longest undefended border, but no offence to any Americans, I would never chose to immigrate there. I agree with you, I think Canada is a country that takes care of its citizens regardless and doesn’t make sure you’ve got the funds to back -yourself up first.. I think it’s in the mindset of Canadians - that we don’t mind taking care of each other, and ensuring that everyone regardless of income/background quality equal health care because we all know that we’re going to need that health care ourselves one day.. I don’t believe in Capitalism.. spending and making money aren’t my priorities.
I’m not trying to degrade the US or anything, but I find a good number of them are very rude and disrespectful.. for example regarding Canada to nothing more than ”America’s hat", and then accusing Canada of doing nothing in the middle east to help, when we see on the news every week that more and more Canadian soldiers are dying from roadside bombs and in combat… its very hurtful to all soldiers families, a friend of mine lost his friend oversees
. Also Americans seem very verryy misinformed when they trash our health care system.. when really it is amazing.. I’ve seen clips of and heard debates with American politicians telling complete LIES about socialized health care.. they’re using scare tactics to brainwash and make a fool of their citizens and themselves! some Americans seem to speak out about an issue before they are completely informed about the issue.. I like to be informed about issues as much as I can before I weigh in with my opinion, otherwise you just end looking stupid..
- and before people go saying that all Americans are not like that at all, I know, I have some distant family in the States and they’re great people.. maybe I’ve just heard from a bad sample of the US..
Also there’s the common known thought that Americans are ignorant.. and I’m sure a lot of them aren’t but when they ask(joking I hope) how my igloos holding up with this warmer than usual winter, or how my sled teams getting around with the lack of snow.. they kind of enforce that label themselves.. I’m sure most of the time they’re joking, but its not funny haha.. we laugh at them for saying that, not with them lol and if you watched the closing ceremony of the Olympics, we like to poke fun of ourselves as well.. giant inflatable beavers, singing mounties and all
I also feel that the US underestimates the strength/power of Canadians(for ex.. how we won 14 golds.. that seemed to baffle a lot of countries.. but not Canadians, we knew our athletes had it in them ), thinking we mainly just work 6 months of the year and get wasted the other 6 months talking ”aboot” hockey and that our main food groups are maple syrup, alcohol and moose meat ”eh”… but I kind of like being underestimated.. makes me feel powerful muahahahah.. he he lol
In my biased opinion I think that Canadians are more easy going and like to roll with the punches.. we’re not to uptight and we love to sit down and have a beer and strike up a conversation with random strangers
Our economy isn’t suffering nearly as much as the US’s, we seemed to avoid the worst of it.. our banking and housing markets are more stable, and we just seem to have our heads on straighter right about now..
You sound like you’d make a great Canadian, you already seem to have the same attitude and respect for Canada as us Canadians do
As far as the best province to settle in.. it all depends on what you like, We may not have a huge population, but the different regions of Canada vary greatly in culture, landscapes, populations and diversity. I’m from Atlantic Canada, and those 4 provinces are known for their friendliness and hospitality.. people who visit this region always come back with great things to say about their trip.. the food is amazing(if you like seafood, you’ll think you’ve died and gone to heaven), rich culture and absolutely beautiful scenery.. but the winters can test your patience haha.. this region of Canada kind of has the small town feel, but their populations and diversity is expanding.
If you like big cities, check out Toronto, Montreal, Calgary or Vancouver.. living there can get fairly expensive though..
- Where in the US are you from?
If I were you I’d start researching into the requirements of becoming a resident of Canada and eventually a citizen right now.. because it’s very competitive, and can be a long process because there are currently very many immigrant applicants(but who can blame ‘em right? :P)..
Good luck!

Funny - I’m a Canadian looking to relocate to the US. I immigrated here sixteen years ago and am in a relatively similar position as you - tired of the country.

I LOVE being a Canadian. I love how we allow equal rights to all and even before the U.S. Canada, had more rights for black people before the U.S. Many came to Canada with the underground railroad. We don’t discriminate (mostly) it was the 4th country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage. I don’t think you are being to hard on the US, as your entitled to your opinion, and you seem quite knowledgeable about your surroundings. If you believe that everyone matters, and do not infringe on people’s rights and beliefs and love Canada and all it’s people, along with human rights around the world. You are a good Canadian. Many people are detered from Canada because of the weather. If it is a factor, might I mention the west coast??? Vancouver, Victoria.. Or small towns in there. B.C is a place for great activitys outdoors. Ontario is more populous and is close to the American border. Quebec has an amazing culture. Alberta??? uh sorry, (no offense albertans). The praries??? If you like really cold and windy winters, the place is for you.. The maritime will also be good. I prefer B.C. I live in the kootenays. The territories are good also, but densely populated.

Well, im Canadian and currently live in US.
Well to be honest I like US better, but there’s also good things in canada.
Canada has a better economic system. Lol. Its not as cold as people tell you
its actually just as cold as newyork in the winter. Nothing colder.
I do agree with some of the other people’s answers. America has many rude people and alot of crimes
and violence. But Canada does too. People try to say Canada is a friendly country, but thats just an opinion like mines. Not all people are friendly. They have many different unique things in Canada that you may not find in Us
But i think you should maybe go visit it for a couple months then decide to see if you like it or not. Its not quite bad though.
But I just don’t think Canada’s that great. Those people who answered you, to be honest, they just think Canada’s the greatest country ever. And probably just don’t like US And they think Americans like to talk smack about Canadians. And they say Americans talk smack about Canadians, when i was there it was really the other way around.
Well its just a tip.
and my opinion about Why i like us better.
But you should just stay there for a while see how you like it, if you don’t then don’t move, if you do then move.
US ALLTHEWAY.
even tho im Canadian i think u cud tell im not that proud of it.
