Are sexual fetishes moral?
QUOTE: "It begins with a close-up of a guinea pig lying spread-eagled on the floor, each of its tiny legs fastened in place by sticky tape. The camera slowly pulls back to show that a woman, seen only from the knees down, is pacing around the stricken creature in bright red stilettos. Her voice is soft and low: ‘You are my victim. Are you frightened, little man? You know that your destiny is under my heels…’

Squeals of pain ring out as the sharp point of one stiletto is brought down on each leg in turn, shattering the bones. Next, the creature’s back is crushed under a toe, cigarettes are stubbed out on its fur and hip and shoulder bones are systematically trampled and broken until, finally, the woman kills it by driving her heel through its skull. The torture has lasted almost 30 minutes.

Known as ‘crush videos’ or ‘animal snuff movies’, such films occupy the cross-over point between animal cruelty and extreme fetishistic pornography"

Has anyone heard of this stuff? Someone showed me an article about chinese women who step on insects, fruit, and tubes of toothpaste… and then work their way up to small animals such as gerbils, reptiles, rabbits, cats and dogs. Apparently it’s due to a sexual fetish they have in China, called a crush fetish.

Check this article out:

http://www.chinasmack.com/pictures/kitte n-killers-return/

My question is, do you think it’s justified for people to act in this way in order to fulfill sexual desire? Personally, I never even knew about this stuff until I heard about an outfit called "squish productions."

That’s completely immoral. Of course, not all fetishes are that extreme. But if it involves illegal or harmful activities, that doesn’t sound moral to me.

Tess of the Hoovervilles | Nov 21, 2009

No. That is immoral. I say you can do whatever you want so long as you don’t cause harm to others–animals included.
Vi | Nov 21, 2009

This is not really a sexual fetish at all. It’s rank sadism.
Boko's Back | Nov 21, 2009

Hi..
I am an Asian but that was just the very first time to be aware of that horrible thing happening around somewhere in Asia.
Images of such brings shiver all over the body. Such unthinkable cruel thing to happen (done by seemingly good looking people?) and being shown that way. As if they’re proud of their actions.
Yes, I am one of those who will protest some justice over a misconduct. That shouldn’t be followed by some other youths around. Who are trying their best to preserve nature, as part of their growth and devoloping stages..
Then be aspiringly good future citizens of their society and nation.

Let us love life’s preciousness in whatever form in nature! Unless if it’s a disastrous monster like that, then it should only receive a corresponding punishment!

Good Luck!
ARTeMis* | Nov 21, 2009

There is a difference between a fetish and an act of cruelty. I think fetishes don’t have to be defined as moral or immoral, they should be seen as natural forms of expression of sexuality, only as long as they don’t cause any damage.

Is this the real story of God and how he came to be? reflect on it and also give much feedback.?
Robert Conrad Herman September 23 at 2:27pm
The Holy Grail thing is not my idea. That comes from the History Channel. They believe in history the Holy Grail started with King Solomon. And he had grand cathederals, by the use of masonry. He took this knowledge. And had it hidden, where the Knights Templar took over after finding this knowledge. This knowledge on how to build structures that people live in. Which kind of civilized the human race. From there it went to Scottland. And the Knights Templar turned into Freemasons. That eventually wanted to take this knowledge and higher learning away from England. So they came to America. And helped form the United States of a America. This is all truth. You can look it up you can read about it. I myself added the Pharoahs, they didn’t talk about the Pharoahs but I think it is odd that it is on the dollar bill, the pyramids. And they also have the most long lasting masonry the pyramids and the sphinx. I added Jesus, because he did do workings with the Knights Templar. And he was a carpenter, which pretty much is the same thing as a mason.

Now Venus. In freemasonry, the five pointed star represents Venus. In astronomy the bright and mourning star is Venus. In the Bible the bright and mourning star is Lucifer. I did not make that up, I did not change it in anyway. Now my interpretation of that is. hmm, why is Lucifer the bright and mourning star. Does he come from Venus. Not just me but many others believe, from the Book of Enoch. That the higher beings came from the sky, And were in some type of ship. Which makes a lot of people believe that Angels were acttually aliens. Which then would make me believe that if aliens were actually coming to the Earth. They must not becoming from far, but near. Mars doesn’t have any life on that we know of, not in aspects of human form. The only other closest planet is Venus. It’s merely the same size as our planet. It is filled with Storms, which if you were to build some type of biodome, Human life or alien life could withstand these storms.

Now God, who many believe as such as I, that he is the creator of all things. And that he is the all seeing eye, because he is everywhere at all times. I myself don’t believe in magic, except for the magic of life given to us by God. This comes from the Bible, Adam and Eve were created, and lived in the Garden of Eden. God walked with them, because they had God in their hearts, plus God is always there. The serpeant went unto Eve and told her I can give you the knowledge of God. How did this serpeant talk to Eve, was it magic or a cartoon, did some force give a serpeant human vocal chords. I don’t believe so. Which makes me think again, how did this serpeant talk. Maybe he was an alien, with reptilian type features. Aliens are not magic. Now what was the knowledge of God that they gained. They gained that there was right and wrong. A ying and a yang, a peaceful harmony of two things that cancel each other out. Which becomes neutral. How did they get this knowledge? According to the Bible the serpent. Which many believe is Lucifer. And what did he give them, the knowledge of God. Which you can either argue two ways. One way they new everything God knew, or more as it is said they got the knowledge of God, meaning they learned there was a God. Knowledge defined : the fact or condition of knowing something with familiarity gained through experience or association
All I was saying about the Testaments-
The Old Testament, which is the Satanic Bible, which I have also read, I don’t really agree with the old testament. All I was saying in that was, how it downgrades God. The story of Adam and Eve, God told them not to eat the fruit of the tree. Satan told them to eat the fruit. And they ate the fruit. Satan won over God. The first dowgrade of God. Now Noah, God created a flood, that destroyed everything, but Noahs Ark. This is a disaster, another downgrade of God. Now Moses, he listened to a tree on fire, How does a tree talk? Especially when it’s on fire. His people were slaves, and instead of fighting they ran away. Running away from a fight that needs to be won, shows weakness, Which weakness is another dowgrade of God. Now the story of David and Goliath, I wasn’t actually saying it was Lucifer against God. I was saying if David could beat Goliath, that would give hope to Lucifer that he could beat God. And then God tells this guy he is going to burn this city and to leave the city. And then it goes into saying fear God. and later How the devil will trick you into believing he is God.
To me the old testament is a bunch of maybe truths, but still crappy.
The New Testament- Has all the good things of God’s will. From Jesus healing the sick. Of being equal, that no man is better than the next man. That every man has sinned. I still don’t believe in magic magic. I believe Jesus was kind of like a doctor of his time. I don’t believe he magically walked on water. I don’t believe he turn
this to Fireball since I cant send email!
first the question said GOD not BIBLE!!!! And if you know anything about the freemasons, not from the history channel. But the freemasons themselves, the ones that founded this country. You must believe in God, but there is no specific religion you have to be. I believe in God with my whole heart, And talk to him everyday. I also read the Bible everyday, And I might have different interpretations than most people. And I get different interpratations every time I read it

The only thing one can do is Worship thy only True God, and follow the golden rule. And any interpretation of the Bible is heresay. Because it is different to each and every one of us!
I missed a sentence
To be a freemason you must believe in God.

Without reading your discourse…GOD Is Self Existent And Eternal.

If you havent noticed, the History Channel has gone to sh*T in the last 9 years or so. Instead of having shows about history, they have ridiculous shows like "Monster Quest" and "Ghost Quest" and "UFO Quest" and "Nostradamus predicts the end of the world" or "Ice Road Truckers". I mean really? When was the last time the History Channel actually played something that had educational value? They just play far-fetched shows with ridiculous theories and speculation.

The History Channel is a disgrace. I want the old shows on the HIstory Channel back…. the ones about legitimate history. Not over-sensationalized trash meant to boost ratings.

wow dude … you are clearly confused as to what to believe , lets cut it kind of short and dry for a better understanding here for you ..

The reason why the Old Testement is so full of atrocities and bloodshed is because the old testement pulled from cults of earlier times .. As time went on., there was a dire hunger for dominion over all indoctrination and rule as well as power and wealth…. It so happened that the Romans were the ones to get a hold of this cult ( which was the Old Testement at that time ) , and they wanted to create a new kind of indoctrination and method for control… So instead of creating more bloodshed they adopted the idea of a messiah to forgive the murderous behaviour of the cult ( which was the old testement ) , and they developed a " New covenant " , this is when the Old Testement and New Testement came into play …. the Romans took the cult and added a lot of other traditions with the idea of forgivness and created the New Testement which this doctrine is now noticed as the Bible… its all cult worship and neither Covenant is a word of an actual God, but men who wished to manipulate and conquer the minds of many .
Labyrinthine_Anghellica | Sep 23, 2009

The rebellion of Adam and Eve in the garden illustrates man being downgraded, not God. Man’s ways fail, and although we continue to become more unclean, God still forgives those who fall on their face in humility before Him. That is what is shown by the failures of the Israelites.

As for Noah, I’m sure you know that Noah’s survival was no mistake. God came to Noah and He gave Noah the plans for His salvation. Noah was saved by faithully following God and, through this faith, righteousness. He didn’t luck his way out; it was a promise given to Him.

God’s goodness is written in all scripture. His love perseveres far beyond our points of exhaustion. The same gift that Noah received is the grace that Jesus Christ provides. From eternity God has looked on man and has called him beloved. He holds the keys to death and the grave.

Game of Their Lives, The (2005)

IMDB rating: 6.10

Plot: In 1950, few soccer players in the United States played the game with any particular degree of expertise. Most Americans had heard about the soccer only by hearsay, even though it was the world’s most popular sport, and when the United States was invited to compete in the World Cup in Brazil, the country turned out to have no soccer team to call their own. The U.S. set out to recruit players in the soccer breeding ground of St. Louis, Missouri, where they found a group of young friends with almost absolute lack of an appropriate experience, only an unabashed love of the game.

What is the best brand of laptop to get?
I’m looking for a good laptop that will last me a few years or more. I want to be able to have it live up to these standards without crapping out on me:

I use my laptop daily for internet browsing, downloading files (both small and large), occasional installing and uninstalling of programs, CD/DVD burning, audio/video converting, audio recording, video capture, gaming, listening to music, running multiple programs at once, multitasking (high processor and RAM usage), word processing, photoshopping and watching/playing CDs and DVDs. Basically everything and anything.

What is the best brand, model, type, etc. of laptop to get? I was thinking of getting an HP or Sony.

These are the specs I’m looking for:

750GB 7200RPM hard drive (I can do a user upgrade if there aren’t any laptops with this hard drive configuration)
Dual core processor (2.2G Hz or higher)
2 or 4GB of RAM
IEEE 1394 port (either 4-pin or 6-pin)
USB ports (at least 2)
CD/DVD burner (with dual layer burning and Lightscribe, if available)
Wireless-N WiFi card (good range and speed)
At least 15" LCD, widescreen (matte preferred, glossy is okay)
Headphone jack, mic-in jack (line-in jack, if available)
IDT HD Audio sound card (with stereo mix and parametric EQ)
Decent built-in speakers (ability to go fairly loud if not really loud)
Bluetooth
Windows 7 (I already have Windows 7 Ultimate)

Also the laptop should have good battery life and a standard-sized battery (not a battery that sticks out like the 9-cell batteries seen on Dell laptops).

Price range: between $800 and $1500 (I can go higher if I have to)

What would be the best brand of laptop to get that can have all these specifications?
I’m not into Macs.

Always go for Alienware if you’re buying a $1000+ laptop. The quality is incomparable. Completely customizable.

This HP DV7-3074CA is a good deal too, if you don’t like AW for some reason.

You’ll have to look up the specs yourself and balance price & quality but trust me, everyone I know has converted to MAC and they are amazing. They dont slow down overtime and they look great inside and out, as soon az my laptop crashez im goin the same way.

All brands offer different up and downsides.
If you want a laptop with long battery life, buy one with and LED back light LCD screen. I know that HP got a few models with this and the battery time is amazing compared to "normal" LCD screens.
Also, what you should consider is future upgrades of your laptop. RAM memory and Hard drive can be upgraded. Also the CD/DVD burners can be swapped out on most brands. (if you in the future would like a blue ray or something)
What you can’t change is the graphic card. And if you want to play games, this one is the most important part.
Make sure to buy a laptop with a GOOD graphic card if you want to be able to play future games (but remember, laptop graphic cards are usually slower than stationary computer (electric consumption).

Acer Aspire 5940G is a multimedia machine that has most of the modern stuff in it, incl blue ray. But you need to check if this one is available in your part of the world (Some models are not released in all countries) $1800

When it comes to HP check out HP Pavilion dv6t Quad Edition series. Top of the top without being to extreme and good value for your money. (same here, some models are not released in all countries. The smallest one here starts from $999.99 (http://www.shopping.hp.com)

Sony in my opinion are to expensive compared to the others, you pay quite a lot just to get the brand SONY on the computer. They are good, don’t take me wrong, but you’ll get a better computer for your money, buying an Acer or HP.

Both of the above laptop out matches your specs. The Acer also out matches your budget. I would recommend you the HP. It’s a lot of computer for your money, good support and good quality. (I got both Acer and HP myself.)

Disgrace (2008)

IMDB rating: 6.80

Plot: After having an affair with a student, a Cape Town professor moves to the Eastern Cape, where he gets caught up in a mess of post-apartheid politics.

Directors: Jacobs Steve

Actors: Cooper Scott,Ebouaney Eriq,Malkovich John,Reimers Monroe,Tertiens Charles,Drama,

Should I go visit my friends in America?
I live in Paris, France, and I love to visit America whenever I can. For the past year, I’ve been in touch with a guy my age (I’m 18) who lives in Florida. I met his friends thru video chatting and we’ve had long, extensive conversations about any topic you could think of. He’s a college student in UF and lives in an apartment with 3 other guys (one of whom I’ve met).

Two months ago we were talking about one of us traveling to meet the other in person. He doesn’t have a passport so we decided I went over there. I was questioning the whole thing, but after talking to my parents and having them approve, and the low flight costs and plus him agreeing to fully tender my needs and accommodation arrangements, I decided to book a flight.

Since that flight was booked, I’ve had ongoing thoughts and fears from going to a foreign country, to people whose lower limbs I haven’t even seen ^^. I’ve been to A a couple of times, but it was with family, never alone. It’s my first time traveling alone like this and I’m very scared of multiple possible occurrences. Moreover, I’m due to stay over for 1 month. The closer I get to that date my reservations are growing and my confidence ebbs.

I’ve been able to think of so many reasons why I DO want to go, but so many reasons why I shouldn’t. Canceling the flight would cost me 150$, but would allow me to avoid possible fun, and possible disgrace.

About staying with them, I’m very VERY "don’t enter my personal space" and I constantly need my corner to be alone in. I NEVER feel comfortable at other people’s houses or even at hotels I feel really awkward. It’s rather funny, writing this it seems appropriate that this should be my letter of concession to him ^^.

However, I’ve been dreaming about how good it could be. I’ve longed for visiting america, and plus on my own, that could really be a blast. I cannot think of why I would otherwise have reservations from doing this. I remember being completely flabbergasted by the abundance of prosperity in America when I first went there, I would really love to revisit those experiences with greater joy.

How do you feel about this? Would you go? (and I’m referring to the random person reading this, I just need a rational, non-biased opinion)

Thank you very much!

I too would hate the idea of giving up an opportunity to travel, BUT I would not go alone.
Is there anyway someone could go with you? A girl friend? A sibling? Do you have any friends or relatives in another city or state nearby, just in case?

And I would make my own arrangements for a place to stay like a hotel or a youth hostel rather than staying in an apartment with all males, whether you have met any of them in person or not. It could be awkward at best, and at worst something could happen which you might regret. One month is a long time to be dependent on people you have never met in person, not to mention there is the danger that they may not be who they say they are, they may have ulterior motives for having invited you. At least in a hotel, while you may have trouble getting comfortable, you would at least be guaranteed some quiet and privacy when you need/want it. There are hotels that give discounts for extended stays.

At the very least, do some research, get some information on the area you will be staying in. Locate a police station or something and know how to contact them.

Plot: Although Paul Weston and Roger Hargitay don’t know each other, they have the same problem. They both owe a lot of money, have no conceivable way to pay it back and the clock is ticking. When each gets the opportunity to join a different gang of thieves for a heist that will clear their respective debts, what choice do they possibly have? The good thing is that - it will be an easy robbery - an inside job. Unfortunately, it turns out to be the same robbery, at the same time. Suddenly this used car salesman and this yuppie stock broker find themselves in a gun battle with each other and the police, leaving them no other choice but to team up in order to get away. How easy/hard it is to become a philosophy professor?
Assume that I already have the PhD taken care of. When I go out into the job market, how easy/hard will it be to get a job as a philosophy professor?

I live in Canada, but in the US, I’d like to know too. I could move if that’s what it takes.

Also, if you want to muse on it, why is it so hard?

Right now, it’s really hard to get a job as a faculty member in any field - most colleges have hiring freezes (no new hires). Some fields are easier to find faculty jobs in (law, nursing, chemical engineering are always looking for new people - probably because teaching college pays less than a job you could get actually using the degree) and other fields are always hard to get a job in (philosophy is at the top of that list since it has very practical applications besides teaching). Every job posted gets hundreds of qualified applicants.

eri | Jul 21, 2009

Interesting question. I imagine that it’s not that hard. A lot of colleges are trying to push their liberal arts departments a little harder (they want more students with LA degrees and less with science or business degrees for some reason). Also every college will have a certain amount of humanities / philosophy / ethics requirement in order to graduate, so they need professors qualified to teach these subjects.
Jacob | Jul 21, 2009

The biggest setback to becoming a professor of philosophy is that most prospective professors tell the university that there is no such thing.

Okay, I am sorry for the bad joke. If you are intelligent, well spoken, and know what you are doing in the field, it should not be too difficult. Yes, it is a competitive field, but so long as you have something to set you apart from other interviewees (such as a published essay or fantastic thesis), you will manage to find a job somewhere.
James Cavera | Jul 21, 2009

To become a professor in Philosophy is too easy as well as too difficult. It is easy if you have done your ph.D in obtaining good marks and a good posit on but it is difficult if you are a simple PHd. However, you get a the job of a professor in philosophy by exerting more intelligence in undeunderstatings subject. You live in Ca. it is good. There you can find the job cos there is result orient ed society and not the one which is based on other criteria, I mean politics. Do P. hd. and try to get the job, my good wishes are with you. Good Luck and also Best of Luck

Thank you!! :D
